本片讲述了1970年代德国极左恐怖组织;红军支队;的兴衰史。由安德里亚斯;巴德尔（莫里兹 ;布雷多 Moritz Bleibtreu饰）和乌尔丽克 ;迈因霍夫（马蒂娜 戈黛特 Martina Gedeck饰）领导的德国无政府主义组织;红军支队 ，从1972年开始一直从事极左的恐怖活动。在标榜以德国;国家道德腐败 的名义下，该组织试图创建一个更加人性化的社会体制。然而他们正是用以暴制暴的方式，犯下了多起暗杀、爆炸攻击以及绑架的罪行，所谓的人性在嗜血成性的恐怖事件当中消失殆尽。影片根据记者斯特凡奥斯特80年代的畅销书改编而成，荣获2009年第81届奥斯卡金像奖最佳外语片提名，2009年第66届金球奖电影类-最佳外语片提名，2009年第22届欧洲电影奖最佳男演员提名等多项大奖。
